Care

Pure linen is not difficult to look after and it is not compulsory to iron it! Here are some tips to get the best out of your linen which, with a reasonable amount of care, should last you a long time.

  • wash linen (linen is machine-washable) rather than dry cleaning it, as washing makes linen softer, more absorbent and stronger
  • wash before use
  • wash on 30ºC or 40ºC, with like colours, using a gentle detergent avoiding brightener and bleach
  • wash colours (including pale colours such as cream) using a colour-care detergent
  • use fabric conditioner
  • launder stains while still fresh
  • use a gentle spin cycle
  • hang dry (tumble drying is not recommended) and iron whilst damp with a clean iron
  • iron dark linens on the reverse side only and use a cloth when ironing over delicate/embroidered items
  • ensure your linen is clean before storing as soiled linen encourages mildew
  • store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area
  • do not store linen in synthetics, plastic bags, cedar chests or cardboard boxes
  • when storing for a long time refold the linen occasionally
